Winter can be hard enough on your skin. But add face masks to the mix and this year is bound to be extra hard on that face of yours.

Face masks and your skin

There are a lot of comfortable masks out there. But prolonged use or having extra sensitive skin can lead to itchiness, irritation or a rash.

On top of this, masks create a moist environment from breathing, talking and sweating under them. This is a recipe not only for breakouts, but also dry, itchy, raw skin.

What do you do?

Your skin is dry and needs moisturizer, but you don’t want to exacerbate the pimples.

We know the struggle! And Luckily, a pretty simple routine can help.

Masks on Hand:

It’s a good idea to always have a few masks on you. This way, if your mask starts getting a bit moist on the inside you can switch it for a fresh one. After all, dampness against your skin will only lead to problems.

Cleanse & Moisturize:

It’s likely you’re already doing this in the morning and evening, but it’s a good idea to gently cleanse and moisturize after prolonged use of a face mask as well. Especially if you’ve been wearing one outside in the cold.

We recommend washing your face with a gentle, natural, fragrance-free cleanser. Be sure to use lukewarm water! And follow-up with a quality, non-greasy moisturizer to give your skin the boost of hydration it needs, without clogging up your pores.

Avoid Makeup:

Let’s admit it, makeup and masks do not go well together. Not only will it lead to clogged pores, it soils your mask, and the extra dirt and oil can lead to a breeding ground of bacteria (gross). While you’ll want to avoid foundation, powder and lip stick, the eyes can still sparkle and shine along with some nice, full lashes.

Treat the Issues:

When it comes to face masks and your skin, the easiest way to keep any issues under control, is to be prepared.

If one mask is chafing around the ears, nose or cheeks, switch it out for one of a different make. They likely won’t all fit the exact same, so this may relieve pressure on the irritated areas. And in the meantime, apply our true natural skin gel to help soothe and heal the skin.

This multi-purpose gel contains a quality aloe vera extract that provides over 3x the benefits of other aloe products. Plus it includes healing essential oils and vitamins including tea tree, witch hazel, rosemary and vitamin E. Together, these ingredients nourish the skin while providing analgesic (pain relief) and antibacterial (aka pimple fighting) properties.

PS. between the cold and those masks, you’ll also want to keep your lips hydrated with one of these true natural lip balms.
