Bath Benefits: 5 reasons baths are great for your health

Sure baths feel nice, great even, but they offer so much more than that.

In case you need a reason (or 5) to carve out some ‘me’ time with a nice, luxurious bath, we’ve compiled a compelling list of bath benefits.

Baths improve your mood.

As mentioned above, submerging yourself in a nice hot (but not too hot) bath feels fantastic. It has a calming and relaxing effect, not to mention offers quiet and comfort. Combined, it’s no wonder your mood is lifted. But what’s interesting is that not only is your mood elevated while in the bath but this feeling has staying power. Meaning, this good mood will continue long after you’ve gotten out.

They reduce stress and anxiety

Submerging your body in water has been found to calm the nervous system, reducing levels of stress and anxiety. Along with an upswing in your mood, these negative feelings won’t stand a chance.

Aid in getting a good night’s sleep

If you want a good night’s sleep, a bath can help. But why? How? Well, it’s believed that a colder core body temperature will help induce sleep. At night, the body’s temperature naturally drops, which signals the production of melatonin (a sleeping hormone). If you’ve soaked in a warm bath, your body temperature will rise. And getting out of the bath will cause it to rapidly cool down, stirring up that melatonin.

Cleanse and moisturize

A nice, hot bath opens up your pores, while also leading to a good sweat. This is the body’s natural way of cleansing itself. And adding essential oils such as coconut, olive or lavender will nourish and moisturize your skin while offering pleasing aromatic scents (which also regulate moods and reduce stress).

If you have any skin irritations, opt for warm water instead of hot, to help hydrate and soothe.

Burn calories

Steeping in a warm bath induces better blood flow and circulation, giving your body a mini workout. Of course it’s not quite the same as a vigorous workout, but a good sweat induced by a hot bath can burn as many calories as taking a walk. Neat, eh?

Create the ultimate healing bath

To get all these bath benefits you’ll want to carve out a solid twenty minutes to half hour. Get the atmosphere going with dimmed lights and clear out any distractions (we’re looking at you cell phones and tablets) unless they’re out of reach and playing some soft music. The point is to lay back and relax.

Close the shower curtain or bathroom door, this will keep the steam in while opening and cleansing your pores. And don’t forget to bring in a large cup of ice water to help you stay hydrated.

Now, top it all off with a luxurious bath bomb (or 2)! We have 4 wonderful scent and skin-loving varieties including orange & patchouli, coconut & lime, lavender, and lemongrass.
