5 Delicious and Healthy Smoothie Recipes

Mornings are BUSY. And I know I’m not alone in letting coffee be my breakfast most days of the week.

But that’s not exactly healthy, and definitely not going to offer up enough energy for the day ahead. Of course, there’s the option to grab something on the go, but that’s also time consuming, not to mention the expense adds up fast.

Smoothies though. They’re quick, healthy and yummy, and easy to take on the go.

They don’t require a long list of ingredients or much prep work. For the most part, all you need is some fresh or frozen fruit, a veggie or two, a type of milk (dairy, almond, coconut, soy) and sweetener (honey, maple syrup, agave nectar, etc.). However, it can be easy to get proportions wrong, which is where tried and true recipes come in handy. Below are a few of my favourites, hope you enjoy them too!

5 healthy smoothie recipes to get you through the week

Apple Crisp Smoothie from Vegan Program

This might not have the healthiest sounding name, but trust me, it is. Featuring red apple, rolled oats, vanilla non-dairy milk, peanut or almond butter, cinnamon and maple syrup, this smoothie is like fall in a cup, and it’ll keep you nice and full through the morning.

Blueberry Spinach Recipe from Alaska from Scratch

Not only do blueberries and spinach pair nicely together, they’re also both fantastic for your health. Full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, you can’t go wrong with these super foods. And that’s not all, both blueberries and spinach aid in the health of your skin too. The recipe also calls for plain Greek yogurt, a banana some strawberries, milk of choice, honey, and protein powder if desired. On a side note, my kids love this smoothie, and I love that it gets some spinach into them!

Green Tea Antioxidant Smoothie from Yummly

This super smoothie combines matcha with almond milk, banana, spinach and strawberries to deliver a huge dose of goodness for your taste buds and health. This is because matcha is a more potent source of nutrients than steeped green tea. And since it also contains caffeine, you can probably skip the morning coffee when you make this smoothie.

Orange Protein Smoothie from Yummy Mummy Kitchen

This smoothie is creamy goodness. It’s so good, that you’ll likely forget it’s even healthy, and instead think your enjoying a cream shake. Made with your choice of seedless tangerines or mandarin oranges, it also includes Greek yogurt, honey (or try coconut syrup), banana and protein power.

Strawberry Pineapple Kale Smoothie from Damn Delicious

All the benefits of kale, without the taste of kale. While I personally enjoy this leafy green, I know it’s not for everyone. But trust me, you’ll get all its wonderful nutrients while tasting the tropics thanks to the added strawberries, pineapple and banana. This smoothie will start your day off on the right foot.
